I know a lot of people have written him off but for me I still want us to give him another contract. To get a player of his quality at this level will cost a fortune so I think it's worth the risk of giving him a new contract and try and get him back up to speed for next season. With him coming back and getting a different injury instead of a reoccurrence of his old one is hopefully a good sign that he was over the hip injury and it won't stop him playing again like some rumoured. Plus with the injuries he's had the last couple of injuries I doubt he'd be able to demand a large contract. We can't afford to carry passengers, we are clearly running close to ffp so carrying a crock on 20 grand a week is hardly smart business, no matter how good he was 2 years ago. Free the wages up, let Bruce get his own players in. Doubt he'll get 20 grand a week anywhere after these injuries the last couple of years though. No your right, a pro club shouldn't give him anything, there's no room for sentiment in football.

Midfield dynamo Lee, 30, and centre-forward Hooper, 30, are running again following long injury lay-offs. But Agnew, who was in the dug-out for the first time on Saturday as the Owls were held to a goalless draw in the FA Cup by League One promotion-chasers Luton Town, is refusing to put a timescale on when Lee and Hooper will next be available for selection. Agnew, holding the fort until manager Steve Bruce officially starts his job on February 1, said: "I think it is early in their recovery. I don't really know the depth of their rehab and where they are at with it all and when they are going to start playing football again.

It has emerged the Wednesday midfielder went for a scan after his comeback was cut short around the quarter of an hour mark in the development squad's home win over Colchester United on Monday. Lee was pencilled in to play 45 minutes of the Unders fixture, which the Owls edged following an own goal by Oliver Kensdale and a Morgan Fox strike, but was replaced early on by Ciaran Brennan. Although the full extent of Lee's injury is not yet known, it is thought the year-old has been hampered by a knee issue for a couple of weeks. It is another blow for Lee, whose last competitive appearance came at Norwich City on December 9. After working closely with Wednesday's fitness experts over the summer, Lee recently returned to full training. But now the former Oldham Athletic player, who has yet to feature under Wednesday chief Jos Luhukay, appears to have suffered a fresh setback in his bid to regain full fitness. Luhukay is set to give an update on Lee in his pre-match press conference ahead of their Hillsborough meeting with Stoke City tomorrow morning. Saturday's encounter with the Potters is likely to come too soon for Gary Hooper. The striker played 45 minutes against Colchester as he continues his recovery from injury.
