One of the series of Black Paintings Goya painted directly onto the walls of his house sometime between and , it depicts two men fighting one another with cudgels , as they seem to be trapped knee-deep in a quagmire of mud or sand. It was a small two-story house which was named after a previous occupant who had been deaf, although Goya had also been left deaf after contracting a fever in Between and , when he moved to Bordeaux , Goya produced a series of 14 works, which he painted with oils directly onto the walls of the house. Fight with Cudgels had been situated in the upper room of Quinta del Sordo. The traditional interpretation has been as fight of two commoners fighting in a desolate place trapped knee-deep. The British researcher Nigel Glendinning had already remarked on the differences between the final detail of the Black Paintings and the detail documented by Jean Laurent , before the transfer from the wall of Goya's home.

On Monday, April 17, , Canal de las Estrellas started broadcasting Duelo de Pasiones weekdays at pm, replacing Barrera de amor. The last episode was broadcast on Friday, October 27, with Amar Sin Limites replacing it the following day. Upon reading it he thinks his wife is in love with the farmhand and was planning to run away. Consumed by jealousy and hatred toward his wife and her affair, he shuns her and their daughter, Alina, and exiles his wife to another, Sierra Escondida, where she continues to suffer his abuse and humiliation. Here, Alina becomes known by the name of 'Flor del Campo'. To make matters worse, before being taken away by her father, Alina had met Emilio Valtierra, a military officer, at a party. They both had fallen in love and had promised to meet each other in a cafe, a date which Alina never made.
A duel is an arranged engagement in combat between two people, with matched weapons, in accordance with agreed-upon rules. Duels in this form were chiefly practiced in early modern Europe with precedents in the medieval code of chivalry , and continued into the modern period 18th to late 19th centuries, if not beyond especially among military officers. During the 17th and 18th centuries and earlier , duels were mostly fought with swords the rapier , and later the small sword , but beginning in the late 18th century in England , duels were more commonly fought using pistols. Fencing and pistol duels continued to co-exist throughout the 19th century. The duel was based on a code of honor.
It was released on April 16, by Fonovisa Records. The songs are mostly inspired by disappointment in love. The album received positive reviews, commending Duelo's ability to sing about romantic love, instead of entering the fashion of contemporary groups that perform narcocorridos. The first two singles from the album, "Soy como no soy" and "Te odio y te amo", were both hits reaching the top forty in the Regional Mexican Airplay chart.
